WELCOME HOME! PIZZA PARTY & "NIGHT ON THE TOWN" TOURS / San Diego Metro Area
MWR delivers pizzas to the crew members standing duty on returning ships the first night back in port at Naval Base San Diego, Naval Air Station North Island, Naval Base Point Loma and Naval Amphibious Base Coronado. The "Night on the Town" tours take newly returned Sailors to San Diego points of interest. Annual participation is 10,500 Sailors.

"SAILORS HOME-AWAY-FROM-HOME" LIBERTY CENTER PROGRAMS / San Diego Metro Area
Sailors head over to their Liberty Center for great events including: luaus, BBQs, Comedy Nights, special event parties with refreshments, entertainment and trivia competitions, Super Bowl Extravaganzas, "Home Away from Home" events complete with food, games, music and movies, and annual holiday festivities with free gift wrapping supplies and cards. Each of our six Liberty Centers attracts between 150-600 active duty military members per event and serves approximately 60,000 Sailors annually. Sponsorship is per Liberty Center:

FREE ACTIVE DUTY BOWLING & BILLIARDS / San Diego Metro Area
On Mondays & Tuesdays, MWR Recreation Centers provide Sailors with FREE bowling. Mondays are at NASNI's Sea ‘N Air Lanes and Tuesdays are FREE bowling and billiards at Naval Base San Diego's Admiral Robinson Recreation Center. The events attract approximately 400 per facility weekly, or 41,600 annually. Sponsorship is available in two-month segments.

BOWLING TOURNAMENTS AND EVENTS / San Diego Metro Area
MWR offers many bowling tournaments and events annually including: Junior Scholarship League, Sweetheart Specials, St. Patrick's Day Spring Tournament, Family Days of Summer Fun, Armed Forces Tournament, Special Olympics, National Amateur Bowlers, Labor Day Special, Turkey Shoot, Military 200 Club, and Non-Alcoholic New Year's Eve Parties. These events are open to all branches of the military, their families, reservists, retirees and DoD civilian personnel. Each event attracts from 600 to 1,000 participants.

ALL-STAR EVENTS...PLAY BALL! Leagues-Competitions-Tournaments / San Diego Metro Area
The eight San Diego Navy Fitness Centers serve over 84,000 patrons monthly, and hold league competitions, tournaments in softball, football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, dodgeball, tennis and racquetball. All-Star events build morale and help military members maintain peak physical fitness. Prizes are awarded to individual, command and group winners. Event favorites include: Presidents Day Softball Tournament, Navy Relief Sports Week Softball, and Basketball Tournaments, Take-it-to-the-Hoop Lunchtime League, Kickball Tournament, PRT Command Challenge and Holiday Sports Week. Expected participation is 100-500 for each event serving over 150,000 annually.

CHILD AND YOUTH PROGRAMS / San Diego Metro Area
Navy Region Southwest operates nine child development centers and eight youth centers throughout San Diego County. Youth programs provide physical activities, field trips to theme parks and San Diego local attractions, movie nights, dances, entertainment, holiday celebrations, after school programs, Military Family Toddler Time and many more fun events. Sponsorship for Child and Youth Center Programs supports activities for over 40,000 children per month and approximately 480,000 annually.

STUDENT TRANSITION PROGRAMS / SW Region
Military children and their families are helped through difficult periods of public school transitions with a series of meetings and events with public school educators and administrators. Meetings and events bring together military children, their families and educators in a relaxed atmosphere to get acquainted, discuss goals, and introduce the MWR and Fleet & Family programs available to assist in the development of military students into productive and secure public school attendees.

WARRIOR GOLF PROGRAM / SW Region
This seven-week program for wounded warriors brings the best possible experience to the game of golf. Adaptive equipment is made available to wounded warriors to increase their mastery and enjoyment of the game. The program is run eight times throughout the year and serves 200 participants per seven-week program.

LIBERTY TRIPS and EXCURSIONS FOR SAILORS / SW Region
Liberty Centers give Sailors a much-needed break from the ship and work. Trips and excursions include: Big Bear, Las Vegas, Valentine's weekend trip, Catalina Island, Land Sailing in China Lake, White Water Rafting, Black Canyon Canoe Trip, Skydiving in Lemoore, End of Summer Camping Trip in Ventura, Grand Canyon and more. Activities attract 125,000 annually. Sponsorship is per trip or excursion.

INDIVIDUAL AUGMENTEE (IA) 2ND TUESDAY CONNECTION EVENT / SAN DIEGO METRO AREA
Beginning January 10 - Each month the Navy Region Southwest contacts and connects with IAs and their families ensuring they are aware of the resources and support services available during their Sailor's deployment. Monthly meetings and recreation activities for IAs and their families provide networking and relationship building opportunities that assist them in overcoming the unique challenges of the forward deployed. Sponsorship supports activities for over 4,000 families monthly or an expected 48,000 annually.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. 5K RUN/1-MILE WALK / NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO
January 11 - This run is a tribute from MWR and our Sailors for the contributions of this American hero. The event features vendor displays, as well as a presentation of awards for winning individuals and commands. Over 600 runners participate.

2ND SATURDAY AUTO MAINTENANCE TRAINING PROGRAM / NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO
Beginning January 14 - Automotive experts share their expertise on the second Saturday of each month with active duty military and their families. The training program demonstrations teach participants how to conduct basic repairs or maintenance on their personal vehicle and how to recognize and avoid automotive scams. 500 participants annually.

COMMAND FLIPPING AND DRAGGING CHALLENGE / NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO
January 25 - Participants are put through their paces with flipping tires, chain weight pulling contests, and other competition to see who can last the longest. The event features vendor displays, as well as a presentation of awards for winning individuals and is expected to attract 100 participants.

AEROBATHON CHALLENGES / SAN DIEGO METRO AREA
January 25, April 26, May 16, June 1, June 8, October 31 and December 9 - Aerobathon and Fitness Challenges are hosted by each of the five Navy Fitness Centers that serve over 84,000 patrons monthly. Prizes are awarded to individuals, commands and group winners in these seasonal events. Activities attract 4,000 participants annually.

REGIONAL SAILOR OF THE YEAR PROGRAM / SAN DIEGO METRO AREA
February - March - The Sailor of the Year program recognizes special Sailors who have shown unusual or heretofore unrecognized honor, valor and dedication to fellow Sailors and the community. These Sailors embody the finest qualities of the men and women serving in today's U. S. Navy. 300 expected recipient honorees.

POLAR BEAR SWIM / NAVAL BASE POINT LOMA, MAIN BASE
February 3 - Annual 500-yard swim in the cold waters of the bay during our deep winter month. The event features vendor displays, as well as a presentation of awards for winning individuals and commands. The event is open to all MWR patrons and attracts approximately 150 participants.

VALENTINE CHALLENGE / NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO
February 10 - Compete with your other half, best friend, or a spouse of companion. All are put through their paces with weight pulling contests, timed and counted reps moving heavy objects and other competition to see who can last the longest. The event features vendor displays, as well as a presentation of awards for winning individuals and is expected to attract 75 participants.

MILITARY SAVES PROGRAM / SAN DIEGO METRO AREA
March 5-9 - This program provides the skills and tools necessary for our military families to be "Financially Fit." The readiness program workshops provide needed information and resources to help with the financial demands that service to our country places on all of our MWR patrons. Workshops are held annually on all military bases throughout San Diego at theaters, Liberty Centers and Youth programs and approximately 2,500 MWR patrons attend.

March 8 - Liberty presents an array of talented performers from dancers to contortionists performing individual and group stunts for Single Sailors enjoyment and an evening of fun and excitement. Event attracts 450-950 active duty personnel.

MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD CELEBRATIONS / SAN DIEGO METRO AREA
April 1-30 - Military Child and Youth Programs (CPY) county wide take this month to hold special events in each CYP center to reinforce the support military youth have from their community. Small and individualized events with be held with special activities, games, guests, entertainment and prizes for the military youth. Expected participation is 20,000 military youth.

April 1 - This annual party at Naval Base San Diego serves all San Diego military families. April 1 - The "All Hands" Car Show is open to all active duty, retirees, DoD employees and their dependents. Everyone is invited to show off their ride, admire those on display, participate in demonstrations and compete for prizes. Each entrant receives an "event bag." The "All Hands" Car Show will be held concurrently with the Family Spring Fling. Event is expected to attract 200 participants and 2,000 spectators.

April 11 - The Spin Workout highlights "April as Cancer Control Month". Displays and vendors will highlight advances, prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer. Cancer survivors will be on hand to recount their brave struggle against this indiscriminate disease. Expected participation is 200 active duty military.

May 3 - This fun event inspires health and fitness with Cinco de Mayo-themed displays from fitness vendors and sponsors. Held on Naval Medical Center San Diego, the event is open to all active duty, DoD civilians, retirees and their families and attracts 150+ participants.

NAVY'S 26TH BAY BRIDGE RUN/WALK / PUBLIC EVENT
May 20 - The only four-mile run/walk that crosses over the majestic Bay Bridge, begins downtown at the Bayfront Hilton on Park Boulevard, continues over the Bridge and ends in Tidelands Park, Coronado. Participants of all ages compete in various age divisions for unique prizes autographed by the San Diego Padres and each participant receives a ticket to a Padres game. The event includes a sponsor expo, entertainment, awards ceremony and door prizes. This event is open to the public and attracts approximately 10,000 participants and 1,000 spectators.

June 14 - It's a tradition at NMAWC - a day of sports for all Sailors and their families featuring dozens of tournaments: ping pong, jousting, basketball and more. Winners are announced after the final 400-meter tricycle race. This event is fun, interactive, and attracts 350 participants.

June 15 - MWR Discount Ticket Office hosts an exciting annual promotion event for the amusement, transportation and lodging companies that provide discounted rates to our military family. Located at the largest Naval Exchange (NEX) facility on the West Coast, this San Diego event attracts shoppers to look over the opportunities and participate in door prize drawings. Participating companies bring with them samples, promotion items and door prizes for 2,000 attendees.

July 4 - Freedom Festival is an annual event at NMAWC. A celebration BBQ picnic is held as well as entertainment, obstacle courses, arts and crafts, inflatables, paintball, family resource fair with sponsor booths and more. The day finishes with San Diego's most spectacular fireworks display. This celebration of our freedom and those who serve attracts 10,000 active duty military and their families.

BACKYARD FITNESS CHALLENGE / NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO
August 1 - Two-person teams run together for three miles, complete 100-yard team wheelbarrow and piggyback races, and then finish with 60 push-ups and 60 sit-ups, all in the "backyard" of the Admiral Prout Field House. Prizes are awarded to the top three teams. Drawings for giveaways are held throughout the event and the first 50-100 participants receive a T-shirt.

OMBUDSMAN RESOURCE FAIR / NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO
August 15 - This is the largest Ombudsman Resource Fair in the Navy Region Southwest. It provides an excellent opportunity for Ombudsmen to network with resource agencies that provide quality of life programs & services for military families. Navy Ombudsman are a communication link between the command families and command leadership and are valuable contacts for information and referrals to military and civilian community resources. Approximately 250 people are expected.

MILITARY YOUTH CHALLENGER SOCCER CAMP/ NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO
August 15 -19 - Week-long camp provided for the military youth contains competitions and learning opportunities to improve their soccer game. The soccer camp staff is fully trained and is imported from Great Britain. The program serves 100 youth daily.

ENDLESS SUMMER SWIM / NAVAL BASE PIONT LOMA, MAIN BASE
August 24 - Third annual 1K swim in San Diego bay off of Pirates Cove. Participants will be treated to a pool party at the Fitness Center after their swim where there will be music, prizes and food. Approximately 150 people attend.

August 24 - This is a 45-team competition held aboard NMAWC in preparation for the Physical Readiness Test (PRT). It includes a 3-mile run, 100 push-ups and 100 sit-ups. Approximately 150 people attend.

BAYSIDE BOAT BASH / NAVAL BASE CORONADO, NAB
August 25 - Six teams of six build rafts using barrels, inner tubes, wood, duct tape, brooms and rope. Contestants then race their crafts to a buoy 100 meters away and back - or swim to shore. Event finishes with a BBQ and awards presentation. Open to all MWR patrons. The event will attract approximately 200 participants and spectators.

POW/MIA MEMORIAL 5K RUN / NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO
September 12 - This run is a tribute from MWR and our Sailors to POWs and MIAs. Held each September, it includes vendor displays and a presentation by a former Prisoner of War. Over 3,500 runners participate.

September 27 - It's time for Sailors to face their fears. Do they have what it takes? Sailors compete against each other to see who can outwit, out-eat and outlast the best of the best. Challenges consist of emotional, mental and physical tests and winners take home a hefty cash prize. Approximately 200 active duty participants and 100 spectators attend.

September 29 - 30 - Set against the stunning backdrop of Naval Air Station North Island, this event features 225 of the world's most unique and pedigreed racing machines at one of the most distinctive racecar locations on the landing strip of Naval Air Station North Island. In addition, a multitude of current Navy jets and helicopters, special boats and vintage aircraft will be on display with pilots standing by eager to answer questions and show you around, even allowing access into the equipment. Car enthusiasts can also visit the car corral, which showcases a variety of automobiles ranging in age, model and make; and vendor village will quell any shopaholic's inner need to spend some money on unique items.
